19 TGD - noisey gearbox?

Post by rob-81 »

Hello,
My 160k, 1991, 19tgd makes significantly more noise when idling with the clutch engaged. I don't recall this trait on other BX diesels I've had- is this something I need to worry about?! The g'box/clutch operate easily and the car has a full service history with a gearbox oil change around 40k ago.
Thanks in advance!

Thrust bearing?

Try just depressing the pedal just to take up the slack (not disengaging the clutch) and listen to the noise at this point which should tell you.

Thanks for that. The noise does come/go as the pedal passes through the biting point. I had a thrust bearing go on an another Bx. Gears got progressively harder to engage (especially when the car was hot). I guess I have all that to look forward to again!
