Smoking GTi 4x4

Post by christhelion »

hi guys,

Nobody wants to buy my car and I don't have the heart to scrap it.. so I'm gonna fix it.
First of all, it smokes a lot now, it doesn't go away once it's warmed up either. I was told it's likely to be valve stem seals as the car has been sat for a while now. Is the likely cause and if so, how easy is it to do? Does the head need to come off to do it or not? I've had a look in my Haynes manual but it doesn't tell me.

Thanks

They are known for valve stem seal failure, so it wouldn't surprise me.

Essentially it is possible to do them without removing the head, but in reality, you realy have to take the head off...

To do in situ you'll need some chord, a couple of special tools that you'd need to manufacture for the job since you can't go out and buy them, and it'll be a right fiddle.

On the plus side, removing the head is a fairly easy job!
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...
