Not trying to teach you to suck eggs, but have you tried giving it a boot full of throttle when hot starting?

If so, does it start better?
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

On some EFI systems, Ford I think for example, cranking with the accelerator pedal to the floor will turn off the fuel and 'clean out' a flooded engine. Could be a broken temperature sensor indicating false low temperature & efi system responds by richening up the fuel. Not a problem when cold but would be when hot. There'll be one sensor on the cylinder head and one in the air meter too probably. Steve

Well, Citroen themselves recommend flooring the throttle for hot starting, so if it starts ok with a boot full then I'm not all that sure there's much wrong at all...

You could check the hot and cold resistence of the water temp sensor (the one for the ECU as opposed to the unit for the guage).

Knowing the emissions output would be helpful, if it's ont he lean side it could indictae a problem within the AFM...

My 1.9 GTi starts without fail when cold, but when hot will start but idles roughly, sometimes stalling so I'll need to restart. Once driving though this roughness goes away and generally it goes very well. I am due to change the plugs and HT leads so maybe that will help?
