On a Mk2 its a simple as undo the wire clamp on the front of the car, remove the ferrule and clamp, ductape some string to the wire and get ready to pull through. At the other end you need to drop the steering wheel lower shroud and undo the two M6 bolts that hold the handle inplace, withdraw the whole lot including the string you already attached. Unclip old wire from handle, clip in new wire, attach other end of wire to the string and pull the whole lot back.

How it is on a Mk1 i dont know, but i doubt it will be much different.

if the bonnet isnt locking, then its likely that its nothing to do with the release cable, the lock has probably dropped and needs raising (16mm spanner i think)

13mm I believe.

If it's not locking I'd be amazed if it's the cable.
Usually the slide actuator that sticks over.

Try giving it all a squirt of silicone lube and manually working the lock back and forth.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Your right I think it seized but the cables since snapped so need to change that too, have coated it in lubrice (VW type lubricant) and will get the cable done this weekend.

Thanks.
