BX horse power !

Post by Jaba »

While unloading my boot I noticed that what looked like the tip of a horses tail was protruding from the exhaust pipe.
Naturally I started to pull it out - but it kept on coming and coming and coming. Finally I think it just sort of snapped off so I wonder how many more metres are lying up there waiting to come out.
This is another BX and motoring first for me following on closely after the disastrous water and muck in the tank episode which I have never experienced before either..

Got a cat on it Jaba? (this could be a cat-o-nine-tails joke but isn't...)

That is the glass-fibre packing material from your back box. (some manufacturers use packing, some use baffles) It's clearly breaking up a bit. Your exhaust might get a bit louder as more and more of it comes out. Ignore it until it bothers you.

Exact same thing happend on my polo, it totally strangled the power, it just wouldnt rev & i was flat out 50mph

As per what David said above, if the car does feel a bit underpowered it'll need changing, otherwise i'd wait, could also possibly affect emissions if you're coming up for an mot?

If this is your GTi that I was following to Digne les Bains, then I would say that it certainly didn't seem to be down on power...or wet weather grip come to mention it!

Looks like Citroen ectoplasm. You don't need a new exhaust you need an exorcist

Hi Jaba, well in my opinion, if you are loosing power, there is no doubt

the material that you removed, must be horse power hair!!!...

Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Well I think its actually rather devilishly attractive material. It might have other dark uses if it was not so exhaust polluted.

As Mat observed it did not affect the power output of the car.
I will probably put a new back box on it when I bring it back next year cos it rattles a bit now since I pulled its tail off.
