BX rear brake caliper parts

Post by Aerodynamica »

Hi all, my mate's BX TZD Estate needs a new part for one brake caliper - it's the little 4(?)mm by 90mm bolt that goes through the 2 pads, both caliper halves and secures the little tin cover for the front of the pads.

Anyone know if this is a standard machine screw? seems pretty thin for its length and is only threaded on 10mm of the end.

Any ideas?

It certainly is a standard thread (M4 IIRC) - I can't see that it would matter whether it's threaded all the way or not. You can get the rear brake fitting kits from some motor factors for about a fiver; I got one about a month ago from CES (which was made by AC Delco) which includes the dust shields as well, which tend to rust away.
If you're really stuck I have a usable spare screw.

Citroen still sell the bolts, although they don't come with the nut :x That must be another part you would need to order if the old one is damaged when trying to unseize the bugger....

As Mat said, probably best to get the kit which will include everything that you need.

Yes Graeme !
I nearly scrapped one today which had 4 worn pads dangling from it, but I thought ?
I'll remove that the long set-screw 'Just in-case', so PM me where to send it and I'll put in the post for your Mate :D

I just buy a suitable screw/bolt in a DIY store as an inexpensive solution.

Recent experiance of changing rear brake pads

It took over two weeks to be done

First set sent delayed and they ended up by front pads not rears! Second set missing in post! Third set arrived but wrong type basically they were for a CX according to the box and turns out a mismatch on the euro/kiwi cross referancing manual. Finally Monday the correct set arrived and it took me all of 30 minutes to install both sides

I did not for future referance that the box stated xantia! Does this mean that the Xantia has the same rear pads for future referance?

Must admit i thought xantia rear calipers were slightly different & although the pads look the same, they are slightly larger?

Well something went wrong in the cateloging the first set of rear pads looked the same until tryed to fit and found them 5mm to large.

Would be good if someone with a Xantia and a BX could confirm the sizes of these pads are the same. Settle a debate before it turns into another Tyre saga.
