Whenever i've seen BX rear pads advertised, they always seem to say that they'll also fit the CX, never seen them say Xantia before.

The reason why i suspect the xantia pads are larger is that when Mat sorted out the rear arms, we inspected the rear discs, pads etc...& on removing them i noticed that the pads had got lips on both upper & lower edges. So the middle part had worn away only, which i thought was odd seeing as the discs didnt have the rust on the top & bottom. I had some new pads lying about & i compared them, low & behold, the proper bx pads were slightly smaller, identical shape though. What was odd was that these larger pads would fit into the caliper fine, so the width was identical, just the height of them was larger. This meant the pad was larger than the disc, hence the strange wear on them.

From memory, i've seen pictures of xantia rear calipers, & they look different & dont have the dust sheild set-up as per the bx one's. Might be worth going onto fcf as there are lots of xantia owners on their who can probably shed more light than i can.

I've fitted BX pads to CX, and Xantia pads to both!

Yes the Xantia pads are a little larger, but they fit and seem to work fine.....
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Did you fit CX ones to a BX?

What I found was that the first set (I believe CX pads according to box) where large as in length wise and I could not get the pin through.

On reflection the rear discs on both my BXs are remarkably rust free compared to any I have owned in the UK. Given how under used rear brakes are on a BX.

Now you made me think Doc I did not compare the second set of pads with the older ones. Might have to whip of the whhels off both cars (assuming that they are original BX on the TRS) to compare. Take a few photos etc.

Good stuff this

Which model CX?

The rear caliper on lower spec saloon CX's is the same as the BX caliper, but safari/familiale and some of the faster CX prestige models had a larger ventilated rear disc, and hence a larger caliper.
this might be a signature

Haha yea good question because on the correct set it also said CX in the list of alternative vehicles on the box.

Basically there was 5mm of extra pad that was up against the hub on the disc and preventing the pin going through. So it sounds like then the higher spec pads of a CX do not fit which is probably where the mismatch occured?

So wishing I took photos to explain this better.

Ahhhh!
That could explain it then!

I have fitted CX pads in a BX, but those pads were for a CX GTi with non vented rear discs, so that could be it!

Blimey, it's a minefield huh!

All CX estates had vented rear discs.
