hydraulic return pipes a-poppin

Post by davethedumperdumper »

My otherwise superb 1984 1.9 turbo estate keeps loosing hydraulic oil from a return pipe. One of the three thin clear plastic pipes that push-fit into a Y shaped plastic joint detaches itself however many times I put it back. The joint is in the nearside front cross-member about a foot from the nearside wheel and a few inches rear of the steering rack. I've had the car (my second BX) just a few months. Would be very grateful for any ideas.

once the pipes start poping out of this rubber T piece it is best to fit a new one part No. 5451210 price trade inc VAT 13.01 pounds,

these pipes should only be a capilary return for component seepage colection/return to the tank,

but sometimes a component leeks a higher presure of fluid than these plug in trickle return pipes are ment to take, this can leed to these joints giveing way

would it make a differance to the problem what type of engine is fitted or not fitted?

Fair point Kiwi, but the thread was by way of introduction too. A new member introduces his BX to us and we legitimately want to know more. After all, Davethedump....etc. volunteered the information as so it is fair to comment :D

i belive not and think the only diference would be power or manual steering,

Thanks that was what I thought. I could not see a relevance on engine type to the question, although fair point when you go to order the part even though its universal on the BX range you will still be asked the year and model number.
