Having always owned MK2’s,
Were ABS, Air-con and leather trim available as optional extras on MK1’s from the onset of production, or were these ever added during its life span???
Many Thanks.

I'd agree with Todd on the air con, in that I've seen pictures of a Mk1 with it. The ABS I'm pretty sure was only available on the Mk2 cars, as I seem to remember the brochure for the early Mk2 making a big song and dance about BS now being available (1988(?) when my Dad was considering buying one. Sadly I had to wait a few more years until a BX became the family wheels...)

In the UK ABS & leather werent available, perhaps abroad they may have been? I do remember in Switzerland when my dad purchased a brand new 16trs, a/c was an option, no leather or abs though & he did order the rather tasty alloy's which suited the metalic silver paintwork rather nicely, but didnt order the a/c
Can abs from a mk2 be retrofitted to a mk1? Probably more hassle than its worth, although i'm always surprised that the later mk2's didnt come fitted as standard, damn annoying as my 93txd is without it, & its a great safety aid imho.

Anything can be done...but the ABS swap doesn't strike me as a stupidly massive job if you have a donor car. From what I know of the system you'd need the rear arms, front hub assemblies, driveshafts (it would make the task easier if both vehicles were XU engined), brake pipes, ABS pump, ECU and wiring.MULLEY wrote:Can abs from a mk2 be retrofitted to a mk1?
A weekend's work?
Many thanks folks.
Mat ...with an ABS swap, I would include, rear hubs with tone wheels, front brake hoses, front brake pipes? Not sure about rear pipes. Should imagine their standard size.
Brought a new TZD in 89 with ABS. Striped, when it expired with to much turbo boost. One part to remove is the dash wiring with the twin lead warning light bulb holder.
Certainly worth it with a donor and spare time. Saved me a few times.

The front to rear brake pipe on an ABS car is 4.5mm as opposed to 3.5mm, but yeah, other than that, much the same.
More hassle than it's worth to retro fit though really, unless you really love adding large chunks of wiring loom to a car.
I'm not sure I like ABS quite honestly, the valver has it, but I've never had cause to shit myself in the TD which doesn't have it.

Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!
Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

I have my ABS running through a switch, 90% of the time it is turned off, it will often trigger when going over speed bumps (rear wheels faster than the front i imagine) which i find rather irritating, and it is a hinderance on track not a help. Remember it is a relatively basic ABS system!
On the AC front, the section in many the Citroen workshop manuals (section 14 ish) is dedicated to the Mk1 AC, i have only recently found a later edition with Mk2 AC system coverage. I think the actual Mk2 HVAC unit (plastic box with heater and chiller cores in) may be carry over, the Evap core and TXV are certainly identical in appearance.
