Ciggy lighter

Just a stupid one. Is the ciggy lighter live without the ignition on? I've bought a solar trickle charger from Maplins that connects to the lighter. Otherwise it means running croc clips to the battery somehow.

Have you tried pushing in the lighter when the ignition is off to see if it pops out which indicates that it does indeed work?

Pretty basic check to find out if the lighter works first dont you think ingnition on or off?

I was freezing my nuts off and it was chucking it down with rain and I just wanted to get back in the house

However its a beautiful sunny day today with a light sprinkling of snow so after I've done my six trips to the tip to get rid of the Christmas rubbish I will have a quick look.
