BX 17 TZD injector replacement dilemma

Post by andycadabra »

A few days ago there was a thread in which I asked about injectors, and now it's disappeared into thin air!

Briefly recapping:
A mechanic had broken off the leak-off pipe off one and I'd been unable to obtain the correct replacement. The best I could do was one for a Peugeot 1.9td, and someone suggested I could use the body of that with the innards of mine, as they had done something similar (was it BX bandit?).

However now this mechanic has told me, because of a crucial measurement, it could result in a non-working injector, and he suggests using the one for the 1.9td as it is as it wouldn't be much different to the 1.7td. (He could only explain this in Spanish, and my Spanish engineering vocabulary isn't very good).
What should I do?

The reason it disappeared was that a lot of recent threads have been lost thanks to the server crash. I don't know if back ups exist to enable recovery?

Must admit i have no info on if there is a difference, i suspect that there is & even a small difference will mean its unsuitable if the pressures are different. Check the bosch/lucas website to see if it details the tech specs of both types of injectors, if there is a difference then i wouldnt fit it.....

Philip - I noticed the website was down for a few hours today. I was afraid it had disappeared for good in which case I'd have to part with my BX and get a sensible car!

Mulley - thanks - there is no information given on the Lucas website. I did try ringing and was told someone from the technical department would ring me but it seems they never came back from lunch!.

I did ring a Citroen dealer who told me that the 1.9 would definitely be different to the 1.7, and he didn't think there'd be a problem transferring the innards into the casing of the 1.9.

150 bar working pressure for 1,7 TD and 175 bar working pressure for the 1,9 TD. so swap the innards, it will be ok, even there will be a slight difference of 2-3 bars maybe due to possible minor differences between cases

I took advice from a Citroen dealer parts department guy, who seemed to know what he was talking about, together with Delphi who are now responsible for offering support for Lucas CAV injectors.

I was told that it does require specialist equipment to calibrate the innards correctly in a different casing, so I found a diesel specialist, Watson Diesel in Wimbledon, and they did the swap while I waited, for £10.
