The fronts on my 19TZI are very sticky, the front never settles down on its own without some assistance, so Todd If I lift up the gaiter and smear with with grease this may help?

Cheers RxBx, I'll have a look at the link. Whether we're all driving around in hybrids by the time I ever get round to it is another matter...

Well, I finally got fed up with the creaky strut and took the car in for a replacement to be fitted.

It's not the strut! The mechanic told me he'd replaced the strut (and then the 'top') and it still creaked. He then lubricated those rubber bits that are on the end of those bits of metal that poke out of the wheel hub and join on the the steering (sorry if I'm being too technical here) and the creaking has stopped.

That kind of adds up as the creaking only happens when it's not wet weather. It would seem they are very difficult to replace...

Oh well.

I'm going to find The manual and name the parts properly...

Something tells me I scrapped the manual with my last Bx. Looking at the diesel engine manual, there is a short section on the Visa suspension (Section 8:2 Fig,2.6 Front track control arm components). They could be the sort of bits the mechanic waved his finger and tutted at.

No, they left the replacement on, but it seems fine so I shan't worry.

Payment is a bit more complicated than mere money - I'll be in the garage proprietors front garden tomorrow, helping him to grind his stump - as payment in kind. A figure of £50 was mentioned before I agreed to the stump removal and now I've seen the size of his stump, I wish I'd just paid the money.

In effect though, it looks like I'll be doing a hard days labour for two squirts of WD40...

It was a day and a half, but I got my old strut back so I've got a spare now.
