Well done Ruben, your car looks in great condition and remember if you keep it that way it can only appreciate in value now so don't be afraid to spend a few pounds to keep it going it should reward you well. Why invest in a newer ncar that will only rapidly depreciate and therefore ending up costing you a lot more without the pleasure the BX gives you.

At the end of the day, ignore economics. Doesn't take much work on a BX for it to look like a 'write off' because the value is so low, but I've ignored that and have probably spend three times what I paid for my BX since I got it in September in repairs (though to be fair, it's done 11,000 miles in that time).

Besides, paying someone with some actual skills to carry out a repair is far preferable to paying some know-nothing salesman who just wants your money (present company excepted before I get lynched!) using finance that makes some rich banker even richer.

If someone said that to me I'd go absolutely mental

What he should have said is "I can't be arsed".

Damn! I was hoping for a bargain

Well done Ruben. Likewise I'd love to hear what work was needed in the end.

Hi,

Will be borrowing a camera asap to take some pics (mine got dropped and is currently useless).

I had a complete re-pipe plus a section of the exhaust replaced.

It's running very well at the moment and the guys at the garage seemed confident that it would continue to do so for a long time.

Watched Prime Suspect 1 last week and was pleased to see Jane Tennison driving a BX 8)

Hi again, still not had the time to get some nice pics unfortunately.

My BX now has both an oil and an LHM leak - looks like I'll have to take it to the garage this week.

I just topped the LHM up but as I was doing so the Y piece completely fell apart. Can I drive the car without the two small pipes attached to the LHM tank?

Sorry if this is a stupid question!

The most stupid question is the one that's not asked - you will be fine to drive it like that as they are simply vent pipes.

Thanks very much.

Just took a long stroll to the Motorists Centre and got some washer hose so will re-attach it anyhow.

Evening chaps.

So my beloved bx needs a new octopus. The guys that have done the previous work don't want to take it on so I'm wondering if anyone knows anybody in the Hertfordshire area that could do the work?

I've spoken to one place who quoted me but they are closing for a refurb so can't do it for at least a few weeks and I could really do with getting it back on the road sooner.

I'm based near Tring but can obviously travel a bit if I can find someone who can help.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

This probably doesnt help Ruben, but in Chesterfield i've started using a garage clalled frontlines, they quoted me £80 to fit an octopus if i supplied it, so if you get desperate i'll give you their contact details.

Hi Ruben - if you can make it to Hitchin then Chevronics is the place to go.

www.chevronics.co.uk

Rob and his team have kept my car alive for the past couple of years, (and Rob is always happy to see a BX).They replaced the octopus on mine last year, and when/if I find the invoice, I'll let you know what it cost.

'91 19TGD 'Alpine White' 28.02.91-21.07.14 "Daisy" R.I.P
Still on the road - Many thanks to Rob Moss at Chevronics, Hitchin, Herts
