Engine mount question 1.9D engine

Post by sdelasal »

What's the correct procedure to test the o/s top engine mount by the cam belt? I can't see anything in the haynes. I can push the engine back and forth 1/2" each way until the mount hits those rubber end stops in the bracket - which I think means the mount is shot - but maybe that's normal. Steve

Put a jack under the engine, protecting the sump with a piece of wood. Begin to jack up the engine and watch the rubber mounting, if it's knacked it will separate allowing the engine to rise.
It sounds quite normal though and I've only ever once had to change one of these due to it being split, probably by someone trying to jack up the car from under the engine, if you get my drift.
