16 valve cooling fan

Post by Alastair »

My newly acquired 16 valve cooling fan is inoperative. I have checked all fuses....changed the fan switch for a new one. The fan itself works if i short out the terminal block which plugs onto the switch....Only one of the two speeds works I notice...is there a resistor or such like located somewhere???? Or does anyone else have any futher ideas?

BX16V has low speed and high speed fan modes.

Which is missing?

If you short the connector to the thermal switch on the rad, you should be able to select between the slow and fast speeds.

If the slow speed does not work: the voltage dropper resistor is hidden on the front of the car behing the bumper, below the NS headlamp. This probably has corroded contacts or has got disconnected.

It might be clever now, but it won't be in the morning!

twin fan system uses a different arrangement to a single fan system, and both of these are different to the AC system. Only the single fan system has a pull down resistor i believe. The fan relays are usually in the scuttle above the battery.
