Indercaters not working

Post by jacksun1987 »

Long story but my sterring wheel went up the creek. So we undid the bottom caseing where its connected to the indercaters speedo and the dimmer swich. To look at it, Undid the connecters for the dimmer swich and indercater. Couldnt do anything with it. Put the indercater connections on. Then the right side indercater didnt work. Where the green arrow comes on, To know that u are indercating. The middile lights came on flashing instead. But the left side was ok. Took it to the gauarge. Sorted the sterring, Then got it bk home. Tryed to put the caseing bk to gether. Then both indercaters didnt work. It was working fine till we undid it all and put it back together. Theres only 2 boxes there the dimmer swich and indercaters. We couldnt put the connection in the wrong way. Becase there is only one way to fit it.

If this makes sence lol
THANKS

Not a great deal to be honest.

However I suspect you've not got all your connections plugged in properly. Try again without all the plastic shrouds on, make sure the plug connectors are pushed fully home into their sockets. :)

have/did you disturb the wire's/plug's going the the indicator stork/switch,

i dont remember what the relay in the steering consul shroud is for, but i thought the indicator flasher can/relay is in the fuse box the other side of the car,

i know you say this has only happend since your dismantling, but just try flicking the HAZARD warnig switch on and off a couple of times

ive tryed the hazards. The clicking sound comes on. But the lights on the dash and car do not. The left and right stick s, Dont flash or make any sound what so ever. The hazards work with out the box. Could it just be a fuse blown.

thanks

Made a bit of progress, I had a bit of a fiddle. Got the left side working but not the right or hazords.
When i trune the right side. Instead of the indercater light. All the lights in the middle flash. The fuse seems to be ok.

sounds like an earthing fault to me then...

Malcolm, the relay on the lower shroud is the sounder for when you leave the headlamps on after the ignition is switched off..
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

And there's the relay for the heater blower full speed rattling around in there as well - mine wasn't mounted - just dangling on its wires. Low speed fan current goes through this relay too (through the NC connection) so to confirm it's that relay, set the fan running and disconnect one wire at a time (replacing the wire each time so you don't have to remember which wire went where) and at some point the fan will stop.

Paul - I suggest you check the connector to the stalk switch - male connectors can be bent over or out of place, and the female side can get pushed out of the shell - might be easier with the top plastic off as well - turn the steering wheel to reveal the 2 small screws and then jiggle it a bit to get it past the instrument pod plastics.

Have you removed or disconnected any other lights or electrical units?
Sounds as if you may have 1 or 2 crossed wires??

When it’s dark, operate the indicators and check all other lights for any faint glow from the bulbs. Turn the ignition on repeat the same operation. Operate the brake pedal and check to see if the indicator bulbs glow. Possible supply fault going to earth via a bulb circuit.

Could also be an earthing problem as Doc mentioned?

Check the earth wire connections on the steering column main earthing plate.
Try removing and refitting them one at a time.

Thanks ill give it a go. Could one of the wiers have come out just slighty. Of the main fuse swich.
It just seems wierd,How before everything was working fine, Next minite its not. I was temted to take the top off last night. Ill also have a look at the stic as well.

Dont know how the wiers have swich ver, If they have. Didnt move or touch any wiers. The only thing we did was, Take the connection out of the little whit box, Then put them back in againe.
Ill have another look thanks.

£205 that's a bargain.

€551 pa for a 1.7 here. A 1.9 would be €614. Don't even get me started on insurance prices here. ](*,)
