Rear Spoiler Fitting

Post by richardd1652 »

I scrapped a 91 Bx a while ago but kept the rear spoiler for future use.
I have painted it to match my latest project and took it up today thinking it would be quite straight forward to fit.
The car is a 88/89 RD Turbo. The underside of its tailgate seems different? with no obvious area to drill for bolt holes?
Would it be poss to adhere it with "no nails"?
Richard.

I would love to put some photos on as i think someone will remember the car as its been CCC for quite a while.
G268JFV. RD Turbo with Gti interior, full length webasto roof in white.
My Father bought it some years ago from a CCC member and ran it for a while. Then as with most cars,he fell out with it and parked it up in the field and left it to rot so ive rescued it.
Dont know how to put photos on?

Any bodt got any ideas? It just doesnt seem the same as the one it came off but that was a much later car. There doesnt seem to be any built in postions for the bolts to go to?Would sticking it on with a " No Nails type adhesive work?

Sorry, right, this is a baby walker spoiler yes?
If so, then you'll need to drill 4 holes.
If you remove the two black insert trim pieces that run down the side of the lid then you'll see a pair of "stubs". drill down through them, but dont destroy the actual stubs.

The rear pair of holes requires you to drill through the bottom lip of the lid and keep going.
Having a lid next to you with the holes there to use as a pattern is always helpful.
But in short, yes you can attach it to your boot lid, you'll just need to make the holes yourself!

I could most likely take a photo of said holes on a bootlid tomorrow and post it if that'll help?

sadly the valver bootlid doesn't really help, largely since it's a P2 with whaletail I guess..
If you can bear with til the weekend I'll not forget to take some snaps of one of the many dismantled tailgates kicking around..

Most likely the lamps will be LHD so yes, ideally they'd need replacing, although IIRC BMW 3 series lamps will fit..

Richard
If You are interested i have a rear tailgate in white with a spoiler fitted from my old TZD hatch.
It also has the high level brake light in the spoiler which i did a couple of years ago.
Anything you want to give for it will go to the BXAGON fund.
I will hopefully be at the national so if you can wait til then i could strap it to the roof of my estate.

Any chance of a photo? I put a brake light into an XM spoiler a few years ago - it would be interesting to see it on a BX.

Thanks
Ray
