16V mixture adjust

Post by Mike E (uk) »

Which way does one turn the idle mixture screw on a BX16V to weaken the mixture?

I adjusted mine back to richer after the MOT last year, and cannot remember which way.

MOT due again soon.

thanks,

Mike

i think all the screw dose is increase or decrease the air supply the throtle body, i belive screw in (clockwise) shuts the air down, so anticlockwise increas's the air,

wont the MOT station you use allow you to fiddle with the mixture whilst it has the prob up it,

The adjustment is not an air bypass, but a potentiometer that connects to the AFM electronics.

MOT stations seem reluctant these days to let people adjust things during tests.
I think it may be because the testing stations are all hooked up to DVLA computer, and that sets the test times.

Mike

Screwing in – C/W, richens, increases CO reading.
Depending on how the throttle stop screw is set, 1 turn on the AFM potentiometer equals approx 1% adjustment on idle.

Found setting CO around the 1200- 3000 rpm range achieves a good overall setting, removes any anomalies with worn TB’s and stop screw setting.

Thanks for that, I will give it some anti-clockwise before the MOT.

Has anyone a portable CO meter they could bring to the Gaydon meet so I can set it properly?

That would be ideal.

im not very techy, more of a nuts and bolt man,

but but in the distant past i remember taking GTI's may be not VALVERS, to MOT's and adjustting the air mix screw on the throtle body to get them within the MOT limits,

or am i dreaming this,
