mk1 manual conversion gathering steam

Post by B-Hive »

Follow up to previous post regarding converting the Mk1 to manual..

Does any one know if I can use later model BX components eg pedal box/ linkages/ cables, interior gear lever surrounds etc for the auto to manual conversion, and if so which models.

I'm guessing valvers and diesels would be different but hoping other petrol 16's and 19's maybe suitable for the job.. In which case i'll spend some time sourcing a donor car..

Also if I was to get an injected model and use the motor as well,, how hard would it be to install the injection module or should I not bother cos there'd be exhaust manifold differences and issues etc etc anyway..

Any advice from someone who has done this before would be great.

there are early and late linklage's, so as long as you match box to linkage it will work,

all MK1 and 2 BX pedel box's are the same no matter what engine sieze/type,

if you have a donor car just use all the components you need to switch engines, (manifiold, down pipe, electronic's and looms,

Most things are possible with a bit of adaptation, I've converted a pedal box that had a standard cable to clutch to hydraulic operation by welding a bracket on for the master cylinder.
However, I'm not familiar with the 405 pedal boxes so couldn't say how much work would be needed. Is it feasible to have a look at a 405, or are you just after a simple bolt in swap?

David Rutherford is probably your man for 405 advice!

Thanks Mat..justing looking to do direct bolt in, and i figured since so many of the other bits are shared with a 405 I cant see why the pedal box may not be one of them!!..

If I can use 405 bits it makes the project more feasible owing to the number of Peugeots we have here compared to the number of BXs

edit... Malcolm (aka citronut) just told me 405 pedal box is a no-go...guess I'll give my local (2500km away) wrecker a call and see what he can find for me..

405 pedal boxes are indeed completely and utterly different.
