white smoke

Post by studleydave »

recently acquired bx16trs and still no use of it apart from driving it home. two or three days later after changing dist cap absolutely clouds of white smoke seen from exhaust for as long as i ran it and not smooth running either. is this likely to be head gasket problems.??

could be too much oil and it burning in the cylinders

check if there are air bubbles fizzing through the coolant. If you have that and hard/pressurized water hoses, it is most likely to be a HG failure.

MY XM is currently getting a new HG at the moment - a snip at £1,040 inc. labour.

Sounds strange, did it happen after you changed the distributor cap?.

I take it this F683NRD which you bought from me, was running perfectly last time I drove it.

Hmm must be somethings simple if it was ok before, the car is in excellent mechanical shape and as mentioned just had the cooant flushed and changed and serviced.

Asides the white smoke does it run ok?

I reckon this thread and this one ( http://www.bxclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12303 ) should be combined.

In that thread you've linked to Phil one of the posts says "Still got to find number 1 cylinder and hope it's on compression" or words to that effect.

I've got a tool in my box that I've had for over fifty years, a whistle that you put in the spark plug hole, it whistles when the pistons coming up to tdc on the compression stroke. Gibbo.
