split hose (whats it called?)

Post by Chris Abbott »

At the bottom of the strut there are 2 rubber hoses, 1 has split, ive bodged it for the time being my putting a bit of brake pipe between the 2 broken ones, i thiink its a return pipe, any body know the correct name for it, or part number, and where i might buy one. Thanks Chris

Strut return pipes, most Citroen dealers still keep them, last I bought were about £8.00 each. Gibbo.

In case you don't know, the trick to getting the new clip on is to use pincers, the type you use to pull nails out of planks.

Or £5 on E-BAY, okay not O/E but less than 1/2 price delivered to your door !

Also note that this item does NOT fit an Xantia as the seller maybe suggesting as they only have one leak off pipe (The same as an XM) the BX has two (One to vent and one return pipe) !

Especially with rubber parts - a number of people have said the pattern leak off pipes only last a year or so. Not such a good deal IMO.

Those cheapo's from gsf are rubbish, mine lasted less than 2yrs, i reckon originals will last at least 3 times that if not more.....i'd spend the extra, i'm just going to use up my rubbish one's & then i'll fit the proper one's when i get to them :D

Ah, I didn't know that...! I'd always wondered, never got round to finding out, and have been using cable ties successfully for the past ten years instead!

Parts arrived, just finished the job. What a fookin fiddly job!! I found it a proper bitch to get the clip to secure (used the pincer method) Next time i think ill save myself a fiver and use a jubilee clip or a ratchet strap, i cant see it making any differance, can you?
At least its job done!! :D

As I say, I've never managed to fit one of the original clips - just use good quality cable ties and have never had a problem.

if/when useing other securing methods just retain the square stainless steel plate from the old clip, this will stop the likes of cable ties squeezing the rubber block to tight at its middle, as this will cause it to kick out at each end and leak
