Driveshaft circlip

Post by KevR »

Anyone know if this is available as a spare part? You know, the one that holds the outer CV joint onto the shaft. Had to change a CV joint boot today, popped the joint off no problem but the circlip broke. eventually had to take a driveshaft off the spares car, but now have a perfectly good driveshaft sitting on the shelf for want of a circlip...

Kev
can you tell me what engine your car has and possibly the last 8 digits of the chassis/VIN No.

then i will stick it into service citroen to get the exact size and price of snap ring you require,

they probably only come in packs of 10,

Thanks Malcolm,
It's a 1.7 TZD estate. I've got three of them (a 1990, a 1991 and a spares car which started life as a 1987 TRS petrol and got converted using bits from a 1990 TZD saloon) and bits have been swapped about so chassis number possibly not too relevant...
To add to the confusion, the driveshaft in question originally came from a fourth TZD, this time a 1993 ABS model. However as far as I know all the TZD driveshafts have the same diameter at the CV joint end (I can measure if it will help), so the snap rings should be the same.
Pack of ten is no problem - I'm a compulsive hoarder of spares anyway, and planning to keep running my BX fleet for as long as possible, so it's always good to have things on the shelf.
Look forward to hearing what the computer says!

If you take it to a good Engineers supplier. they will find one to fit.
This type of clip comes in standard sizes. Citroen just buy them in they are not a style part.
Bearings and seals are the same. I get all mine from Abex near me.

Thanks Malcolm – I'll drop by the Cit dealers when I get a chance. Don't mind paying dealer prices when it's only pennies!
Phil - rather a lack of engineers' suppliers in rural Normandy I'm afraid. IN UK I'd have a good idea where to start looking, but over here it's all a bit different...

Well, I'd always rather slip a few shekels to someone on here rather than a dealer... Can you send me a couple in exchange for beer tokens? There's no urgency.
