The GTi has had a sticky, jerky throttle action for a few years.
Last year I bought a new cable(kit) from GSF. Delayed fitting it as it looked a bit fiddly at the pedal end.
Finally did it a few weeks ago. Its such a quick and easy job that I wondered why I hadn't done it sooner.
The car seemed a bit down on power afterwards and on investigation I found that the second throttle was not opening fully.
There is a sort of compressed spring compensator strain relief device on the cable at the pedal end to avoid straining the cable and/or pedal when the foot is on the floor. This spring was obviously too weak because it was compressing into itself to take the strain rather than open both throttle chokes fully.
No wonder I was down on power. So I whipped it off and fitted the much stronger compensator from the original cable.
