white disc in LHM tank ?

Post by kevlights »

I have cleaned out the filters in the tank and was wondering .The LHM fluid is a liquid hydraulic oil. .. ... Remove thin plastic disc from inside the tank,,,, can any body tell me what the white plastic disc is for ?;what purpose does it serve ? thanks Regards Kev

the disc traps dirt underneath, it is a critical part of the filtration system. As best i can tell it works by magic, but it DOES work and should be plucked out, cleaned, the tank cleaned underneath, and then all replaced.

Just be careful when you put your little pink mitt in that tank! I have a feeling that the tank pressings were made by a factory that also manufactures scalpels for surgical use - and the edge of the tank's orifice is just as bleedin' sharp!

Best advice i had on avoiding the sharpness of lip inside the tank was to once empited, get some emery/sand paper & sand it down a bit, that way you wont get cut to ribbons when sticking your hand in. I did this on one & it was ok, the other i was being a bit lazy & thought that i could get away with it seeing as i was wearing latex gloves, but no, sliced right through the glove & into me, lhm in a cut stings.....

LHM is just oil, it doesn't sting when it gets in my lacerations. LHM does however stick to your tongue and roof of your mouth like, well, something very sticky which i don't wish to experience again.

I must be just a bit of a girl then

I must admit to keep forgetting to put the bloody white disc back in whenever i've cleaned the tank  & then i've had to take it all apart again to put the disc back in.

I think the way the disc works is quite clever, as well as the internal design of the lhm tank.

If you take a look inside a cleaned out tank, its kinda fluted at the bottom, & it has some vent style gaps/holes, the disc sits just above them, so the swirl it creates in the lhm tank when the fluid is being pumped in & out of the tank causes the disc to float above these vents & any debris/sediment seems to collect right at the bottom of the tank underneath the disc & should hopefully stay their for the most part to avoid it being re-circulated.

Hopefully what i've said above kinda makes sense? I could of course have it all wrong, anyone else have a different theory on how it works or perhaps can describe it better than i can?

It makes perfect sense, but you're completely wrong! It's clearly all down to black magic and witchcraft!*

*only joking...unless there are any practicioners of the black arts amongst us that can confirm that?!?!?!
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

 ~wine~ Thanks Malcolm (I think) ..........

For your collective information, the aforesaid experience was gleaned on a 'camping trip', and from brushing my teeth while crouching under a low-slung camp shower.

Like a prat, I got a bit overenthusiastic with the toothbrush, foamy Colgate splashed over my naughty bits because of my crouching position - and I suddenly discovered to my horror that toothpaste-in-willy was a fair substitute for sticking lighted matches down the end of one's proboscis.

Apparently I can do Red Indian dancing rather well - for an old geezer ..........

EDIT: As for the witchcraft thing - I thought everyone knew that, if you couldn't diagnose a weird problem on a hydraulic Cit, you simply took a bag of chicken bones to a crossroads at midnight, kicked a black cat and shouted "Shazam!".

Sorted! 8)
