front wheel bearings BX TZD

Post by billvin »

Hi All,
This Bx I have recently bought has some rumbling noise coming from the front, I think it is the wheel bearings, I think they are becoming a bit dry, is it an easy job to re-grease the bearings or is it advisable to replace the bearings ? There isn't any play in the bearings, they are still tight, and they don't seem to make any more noise than usual when going around corners.

Cheers billvin

The bearings are sealed units.

TBH, if you're going to be taking it apart you may as well replace them anyway!
I have zero patience for your tedium.

front wheel bearing

Hi JayW,
I've just been out and got the front wheel bearing, is it difficult to remove the bearing if you don't have an extraction tool as described in the haynes manual?

You'll need a press.

Assuming you don't have one i'd take the new bearing and the hub carrier to your local back-street garage and thet're normally happy to press them in for a tenner...

Ideally, yes, but if you haven't got one it's possible to do them using a combination of cunning, brute force and large hammers...

That is true. But, for the sake of sanity, bruised hands, pride, torn out hair and giving up halfway through...

I quite agree, but worth knowing if you need to do one on a sunday evening!
