On my GTi it's above the fuel pump on the o/s rear. Probably the same on a 16v?

As phil says, its under the boot floor. Stick your head under (support the car blah blah) and its next to the spare tyre, above the fuel pump, on the opposite side to the exhaust. It is easier with the spare out, unless your on the back of a flat bed, with collapsed suspension, in chich case its near enough impossible regardless.

Um.. and be really careful when you remove the fuel pipes..
Apart from loosing fuel they'll be tight. When I did the fuel filter on my ph1 I tugged on these too hard and split the fuel damper which had got rusty over the years.. these are in a really tricky place to change too!
You can get special fuel line pliers to help remove them.. probably worth getting..

Its worth by passing the fuel damper the second it starts to leak, there are very few people with them still connected, and i've not heard of anyone having any problems without it, the pulse damper i believe is to protect the pump rather than regulate fuel flow.
