Headlight Protection
Headlight Protection
I know you used to be able to get headlight protectors for the BX but given its age and the location the odds of locating some specifically made for the BX is pretty slim?
So has anyone come up with and done (not thought about) a way of combating the scourge of the flying stone?
This year the BX was the Target of a magpie that took out the N/S indicator, A victim of a stone punching into the O/S headlight and now top it off looks like another small stone hole in the O/S indicator.
Given the amount of grit (not salt) that was put on the road this year here and the condition of the roads after a month of the heaviset rain in living memory for september the roads have a few potholes an patch jobs and a lot of gravel flying around. Not to mention the road skimming aka road surfacing will soon commence again.
Oh and not to forget the pellet showers when some F$%^wit in a 4wd throws out the back of them.
So I am giving this some more serious thought than in the past given how the car has been attracting these stones and ways to prevent or minimalise damage

Headlights (at least over here) are cheap enough so I've never been that bothered myself. On another vehicle I've used a thick clear film (think sticky backed plastic!) which at least prevented the small chips. Can't say whether it worked or not for larger ones as I didn't know whether I got a direct hit, but the lights remained intact! Needed redoing every couple of years or so as it started to look a bit tatty, but cheap.
Bullbars on cars used to be all the rage until outlawed yet funny how a SUV tank can still have them
Great idea though although these stones are getting through the mesh as a few bus operators in the area are finding. Replacing two windscreens a year only to have one shot at within a week is not funny either. The BX though seems to be escaping such problems thankfully.
Headlights relatively cheap to replace I got a couple of spares just thinking beyond the scope of prevention which is cheaper than a headlamp one would hope.
Kitch, Thanks I will send my brother around to collect since you said they were Free
I find it ironic that on the gravel roads I would kind expect this problem not though on the open tarsealed 100kph highways though.

The original BX headlight protectors were a pretty simple moulding. I'm wondering whether one of the firms who make motorcycle screens etc (Skidmarx in Weymouth spring to mind) would make a batch if someone provided a template. Not sure how many they'd need to produce to make it worthwhile, but it's got to be worth asking - I'm quite happy to pose the question if there's enough interest.

The one on mine is a big reflector as far as I can tell. Mine is also the earlier, all red version as fitted with the non-smoked lights, which actually works well with the colour of the car (Maroon) .excuse my ignorance, but what are they for? I like them cosmetically, but do they light up independently, or is it just a big reflector? I'm not so sure they would suit a blue car either...
I would be interested in headlamp protectors, mind - I had a pair on the RD I owned many years ago and as well as the protection offered, I also thought they looked good.

headlight protection
hello
from the many bx's ive seen there seemed to have been two types of headlight protectors, ones that covered up both the headlight and the indicator, and ones that just covered the light itself.
BX lights are so nice and simple - easy to get on and off, now if I had a c-5 or other ones of those cars where to even change the bulb takes 1 hour, and the removal of the bumper and light, then id really want them.
thanks
remy
