i usualy qupote 2.5 hours maximum at £30 quid an hour,

i have done them without useing a vice, but the use of a mig welder is a must, as i run two short beads of mig at oposite sides of the outer race's, this give you something to drift them out by and the heat makes them almost drop out,

I seem to remember way back on this forum that it was felt that it was unnecessary to buy these kits but just the bearings themselves from a bearing supplier at much lower cost.

What's your view on this? :?

quite offten you will also need the spacer bush's as they do get mangled,

so unless you have the time to dismantle your car to check what you require,

it is better just to purchase the kit's,

even these do not come with the shim,

Just in case it might be of help, there's a couple of pics on changing rear arm bearings:

http://www.rmattila.com/images/remontit ... akerointi/

And a few other activities on my BX:s http://www.rmattila.com/images/remontit/

e.g. removal of the rear arms: http://www.rmattila.com/images/remontit ... a_irrotus/

Unfortunately, the commentary is (at least so far) only in Finnish, as the photo sets were meant to be nothing other than simple documentation for myself..

I can't understand how you could do these without the kits, just buying bearings doesn't give you the new seals which is an essential part of the repair. IMHO never attempt this job without the kits.

Rmattila, very welcome to the forum
Great photo links there, what are the new back plates off that are modified to be used?

Volvo 740. As it turned out that BX back plates are no longer manufactured, I've been searching for a substitute. Those from Volvo 740 are not a perfect fit, but will at least pass the MOT (here in Finland).

If there are any suggestions for a better substitute, I would be very interested in hearing about it.

Thanks Rmattila for sharing those photos - I searched for a finnish-english URL translator but had no luck. Steve
