There is one, but it's of no use on texts like this (got a good laugh, though, reading the "translation"). However, I think the photos are pretty self-explanatory, and the text - as it currently is - doesn't add much to the technical value.

If I should at some point have time, I might consider collecting all the photos under some coherent link structure and adding a proper commentary (in both Finnish and English) to make them actually useful to someone besides myself.

Edit: added an index page in English.

Hello rmattilla, that's a fascinating collection of photos showing your work!

Could you possibly add your rear arm bearing photos to the rear arm bearing 'technical sticky' which is our sort of instantly accessible archive. Those photos would have helped me too when I did my rear arm bearings a few weeks back.

I was also very impressed with the welding work you have done on the rear box section of your BX Break - in the snow!! I thought I was doing well welding up my BX in a freezing garage at the moment. I'm doing exactly the same repair on my Break except I have the advantage of having been given the original box section complete by a friend. I never take photos unfortunately.

Also can you post some proper pictures of your BXs which are only glimpsed in your repair photos?

Cheers
Todd

Hello,

Sure I will do whatever it takes to contribute to fellow BX'ers. I never thought of this breed getting rare, and have thus only done the documentation for my own pleasure (and to keep my wife - who likes photography as well - happy with me spending time with these beauties).

I've done a lot of travelling with BX's (see e.g. http://www.rmattila.com/images/reissut/aland_2010/ ) but never actually taken photos of my beloved BX:s besides the documentation of maintenance/repair procedures. However, they're just plain BX Vans (which, though, i believe is a purely Finnish concept with a hole in the roof and an add-on glass fibre box to make the boot volume 2 m3 in order to avoid certain taxes) - but nothing special in that respect.

I'm currently working on a procedure to repair worn-out rear arms by welding new material with low-current pure-nickel methodology, and then machining new 41 mm holes for the rubber sleeves (what are they BTW called in English - we call them Stefa according to the Swedish manufacturer here..? )

A couple of pics on manufacturing the tool(s) and aligning the bearings:

If this attempt proves succesfull, I'll let you know..

Best Regards,

Riku Mattila from Finland (where it currently is -26 C outside and I ought to replace the exhaust pipe on my Wife's BX Break before MOT next week...)

Lip seals, radial shaft seals or simply seals!

-26 degrees C  Hats off to you! I will think of you before I complain about working when the temperature is getting towards zero...
