Fuel tank size

Post by scarecrow »

Just put fuel in the TZD and I noticed that 15 litres of diesel takes the gauge up to just over a quarter, where the same amount of petrol in the 14 registered as just over half a tank. Are the tanks different sizes?

TZD will be 66 litres in all probability.

However:
The 14 is 44 litres.

Interestingly I believe the 66 litre tank is basically the 52 litre tank of the 16's with an extra bit. But the gauge only measures what's in the bigger volume. That means If you fill your 66 litre tank it'll show full until you start to drop below 52 litres.

Thanks Phil - I thought I'd made a mistake fuelling it up today

66 litres, that makes a potential range of what, 650 odd miles? !!

Well, Phil Boxall, Kermit, was regularly getting over 750 on a tank in his TZD Turbo.

I used to get 600 miles between (60 litre) fill ups on my TDs - and yes the fuel gauge was firmly stuck on full for the first 140 miles!
I NEED a BX TD.

Getting a bit of track here, talking about Fuel Tank sizes and gauge readings rather than how far you can go

BX19TRS goes further than the 19TRS on a Tank of Fuel yet they have exactly the same fuel tank size :? The reason the differance is most likely due to the Odometer/speedomter accuracy in this case ;)

Anyways talking about Guage readings even with the identical tank sizes the gauges in both vehicles alos show differant for the same amount of fuel. The TZS will quite happily sit down on the line for some miles before flickering on the warning light.

Well, Kiwi, the original point of the thread has been answered: what more can be added to it? If it then goes off on a tangent - then that's not a problem, is it? Conversations evolve after all.

oh yes you answered the question phil, no point in adding a bit of relevance about fuel gauge accuracy due to the fuel tank size. But you know that answer anyways

It's a Citroen, french car with Italian wiring. There is no such thing as a BX with accurate guages, such a thing is mere mythical tales of yore.

Although I found the oil temperature gauge to be within a degree - now that's really gone off topic! :P

Really? Wow! Mines started reading low of late, no idea why, although I'm figuring the ire having escaped form it's zip tie and rubbing on the OS driveshaft may not have helped...

Thanks to this QUESTION we were actually still firmly on topic when quoting our experiences...

On my very recent trip to scotland i got 748 miles from 59 litres making a potential range of around 830-850 miles on a very full tank! This was a genuine conservative cruise all the way up there including through the hills & valleys and a good few town drives in places such as Edinbugh & Inverness (in fact, the gauge read 30 miles of all town driving before i even left).

Got to admit, I wouldn't be any more surprised if I woke up with my head sewn to the carpet!
I have zero patience for your tedium.

I don't see where, a bit of a bizare statement this Kiwi. Did you just want to keep talking about the capacity of this one tank?
