Mystery Oil Leaks

Post by kiwi »

This got me thinking (ouch!)

The TRS likes to dribble a bit of Oil and judging by a few of the posts on here a few others have/had this problem. I am talking engine Oil (the black stuff  )

Tracking down these leaks seems simple enough , except I can not find this blardy one.

So where you guys found your leakage (if any).

I can't give you any specifics on your type of engine, but common leakage areas I've come across in the past include:-

Rocker cover gaskets

Head gaskets

Crank oil seals (front & rear)

Failed pressure sender units

Sump plugs

Oil Feed pipes (although I don't believe these are applicable in your case)

I'd also check any vent pipes for the engine, as a blocked engine vent can force oil past seals that are otherwise fine.

Hope some of this helps!

over the years I've come to the conclusion that Rolls Royce had it right when they said "any Rolls engine that doesn't leak oil has no oil in it".
Same applies to XU's!
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Adding to Doc's conclusion, I was recently advised by a Citroen mechanic that old BX's without oil leaks tend to have cracked front cross-members...
