According to Uncle Haynes there are 6 wires connected to the blue box - the colour codes aren't clear (the Haynes drawings are direct copies from Citroen).
Heavy duty black is from the battery directly.
Heavy duty to the glowplugs is marked as red.
Ground connection is marked as brown.
Connection to the dash warning light is marked as yellow.
The remaining 2 are from the ignition switch...
When ignition is on (and during start) then the green wire should be +12v.
During start the red wire should be +12v.
You may find there is a grey wire connected to the green - that goes on to the stop solenoid on the diesel pump.

Thanks very much followed your instructions and the wires going to the dash area were all green and one brown, so tested to see what ones light up with ignition on/ start and we had a 12v + ignition on and a 12v + start light on..
So the chances on two blue boxes being faulty would be rare so I turned my attention to the negative (brown wire) and guess what no earth going to the box.. so followed the wire to where it goes under the battery and hey presto found the loose connection. ( not connected at all )
All starting now and thanks very much for your help I have a spare blue box if anyone is looking for that cost £10 at breakers so £10 +P&P
I am now looking for a NSF window winder runner as the current one is not gripping due to corrosion
Thanks

Excellent glad to hear it.
Keep an eye on the for sale and wanted section - someone will need a blue box sometime - I'd pop an ad in there yourself for the window runner.
Yes - very many of the wires on the BX seem to be green no matter what the drawings say.and the wires going to the dash area were all green
