Rusty fuel lines

Post by adamskibx »

Can you still buy the fuel lines? Mine has started to drip diesel just under the rear of the drivers seat after I dislodged the pipe from its clip to get at the LHM returns.

This car is a lovely drive, but it likes its leaks! I must get them all sorted.

Yes, GSF were still stocking last time I enquired and so were the Main Stealers.

Usually also listed on ebay. Just search.
I have zero patience for your tedium.

Isn't it possible to make new ones from easily-available copper plumbing pipe? Seem to remember this being the case.

I replaced mine last year, but having done so I wondered if there was no good reason not to run flexable pipe the whole length under the car instead.

It would last longer, not rusting like the genuine Cit pipes, and would be far easier to fit with a bunch of cable ties.

I lengthened my piping with normal petrol hose to make it easier to fit.

Copper is fine for petrol or diesel but not for veg oil.

Jeepers!!! The things you learn on here ay?

And there was me, on my supposedly 'healthy' Mediterranean diet, happily glugging away on oil that'll rot the self same metal that was used to sheath the bottom of Nelson's Victory at the battle of Trafalgar!

I think it's time for the beer diet before my caulking gives way and my bowsprit sags ........................... drunk

I did not realize that either, but subtly different.

Copper and SVO: "I'm not so worried about the copper but what the copper does to the fuel. Did you ever check what happened to your fuel properties like oxidation stability and acid value? A lot of research has been done in Germany on VO (and biodiesel) fuel properties, and who I consider as the leading experts clearly warn against using copper in connection with VO because of the catalytic effect it has on the VO. The laboratory ASG Analytik-Service (http://www.asg-analytik.de), who were involved in the research leading to the "Rape Seed Oil Fuel Standard", says that just a few PPM of copper in VO will change the oxidation stability... [In SVO systems] with a catalytic metal, I think you have the best conditions and environment for decomposition of the VO, and the effects it has on the fuel properties again have an impact on the engine performance, engine conditions (lifetime) and emissions composition." -- Niels Ansø, Folkecenter, Denmark

As long as you haven't got a copper bottom you'll be fine :-)
