Rims: Alloy vs Steel

I was wondering if there is much weight difference between Speedlines and normal steel rims?

The distribution of the weight is also important, as more weight on the rim gives more inertia.

I have one without a tyre fitted, but no means of weighing it.

Speedlines are heavier, noisier on the road, more inclined to tramline in the slow lane of the m-way, slightly harsher ride, but they look so cool....

Never heard of noisy alloys before, could be more to do with the tyres :wink:

Typically, as the steelies usually have "full" hubcaps they DO make less noise than the speedlines with the holes in...

However, i'd have to agree that tyre choice makes a much more prominent difference... :wink:

If you are travelling at say 80 mph down the motorway, how do you know that speedlines make more noise than the steelies? Wind the window down n listen?

I personally use a high tech noise level meter attached to deep blue, so that i can accurately collate the data to prove that there's no difference :wink: :lol:

No I used my external acoustic receiving system (EARS) Mk1, listening to the noise inside the cabin. Jeez...
