speedo cable - same on all models?

Post by sdelasal »

The clip on mine broke removing it from back of speedo of my 19RD. Not the end of the world as it had an annoying tick and wobbled too. Can anyone tell me whether they all the same for the BX? My usuall source for that kind of info is the online GSR/Eurocarparts catalogue but they do not list them. Steve

I found that this was due to the speedo-head input drive and not the cable. The cable bend can cause a small distortion of the ally casting where the gears & mileometer pawls sit which then "rattle" when the lubrication dries out. A sparing application of 3-in-1 oil to this area has worked well to give a smooth and steady speed reading. It was not even necessary to attempt a risky bending back of the casting as the speedo has behaved itself since.

I've got two short top cables, part no. 95 638 113 which appear on that list but without a reference - anyone know what they fit?
Also got a long lower one which looks like it\'s designed to go all the way from gearbox to speedo. I thought it was BX but now I'm not so sure. Part number is 96 027 855. Again, anyone got any idea what it fits?.
These are all new old stock genuine VDO/Citroen cables - if they don't fit mine, they may as well go to someone who'll make use of them.

The 96 027 855 number is also BX (further down the list than I posted) it's just listed as RHD Long 1050 so I'd guess it's an all in one substitute for the two part ones.

The three in the top box in my list appear to me to be all interchangeable so I suppose they're only part number changes as the cars developed.

Thanks Gibbo - much appreciated.
If anyone wants one of the upper ones, make me an offer...

Is there a parts microfiche or CD available for the BX and/or other models? I've got loads of bits I need to identify!

There are quite a lot of CD EPCs (Electronic parts catalogues) offerred on Ebay but it's hit and miss if you can get one that actually works Kev, the first one I bought was useless and the seller was no help.

Post your numbers a few at a time and I'll try to sort them for you.

I only bought my EPC because I had a job lot of Citroen/Peugeot parts to dispose of, still got a lot but all the BX stuff has gone. Gibbo.

I'm in the same boat - cleared a Cit specialist's old workhops and ended up with loads of odd new old stock bits. Still got a few CX and unidentified parts. I posted numbers in a thread in the for sale/wanted section a while back, will try and dig them out. Got to be worth me getting an EPC as well. I've got original parts books for 2CV, H van etc but the more recent stuff's trickier.

Cancel that - turns out one of them's not a 95 638 113 after all - it's s little bt shorter. Has 7551 3020 on the packaging but I think that's VDO ref not CItroen.

Right, now this is getting even more curious...
Just taken the upper cable from my scrap TZD (it was converted from a TRS but I'm pretty sure I changed all the cables, and it looks the same as the setup on my other two TZDs).
The used one I've jsut removed is 106cm long (including fittings). Exactly the same as the new 96 027 855 one I've got. It goes from the speedo, across the bulkhead on the inside, and through the firewall between the fusebox area and the heater - pokes through into the engine bay a few inches. Then there's a shorter one that goes from that end to the gearbox.

The one that ends in 113 is 62cm long, and the other one is 55.5cm long. I wonder if they're LHD ones...

The 7551 3020 number is the top speedo cable for a C15.

There are no other BX cables than the ones in the boxand the 96 027 855 I listed so if yours don't match for length they're probably not original Citroen. Gibbo

Thanks for that - clears one mystery up.
These cables are all genuine Citroen, in original packaging. As I say, the long one matches up perfectly with the three on my TZDs so that's fine.
It's just the one ending in 113 that's a mystery. Must be either for a LHD or for a different model.

I've noticed that 16valves have longer bottom cables than diesels.
Certainly all the valvers and diesels I've had has this. The lower cable on the valver seems to tak a longer route around the HP pump.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...
