2.1 TD into BX........

Post by spanners »

I've read somewhere before about people doing this conversion and was wondering if there's anyone on this forum that has done it and can give me any clues as to the best way of going about it?

I've got a 2.1 Xantia that's even more rotten than my BX and my Ami put together so was kinda thinking about how nice my BX would be with that really rather fantastically torquey 2.1 in it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, ta. 8)

A 2.1 diesel BX conversion has been well documented here before:

Thanks for that Way2go, thought it was probably here that I'd read about it.

Think I may go back to plan A though and weigh the Xantia in to pay for a new ignition barrel for the Discovery and then rebuild the engine in my BX, a hell of a lot less work methinks!

Stewart (oilyspanner) put a 1.9 TDI into his BX. He subsequently named it "The Hooligan" and said it was difficult to make it drive in a straight line. He also fitted a Subaru-type intercooler bonnet scoop, which was rather cool.

I've also done that - a fairly easy swap as the engines are externally identical. There is a noticeable improvement in performance, but I wouldn't go as far as saying it makes it difficult to drive in a straight line!

I think he may have fiddled with the fuelling and the turbo a bit too...

Should have mentioned - I did that too, with a N/A cam and main silencer removal. Whilst it is (IMO) respectably quick, it doesn't seem difficult or dangerous to drive. Fun though! :D

I can vouch for Mat's bx, it certainly accelarated from slow speed very quickly, i was rather surprised, i especially enjoyed the black smoke billowing out  It certainly seemed a big improvement over my tzd which tbh never felt that quick
