CV boot question

Post by Defender110 »

When fitted new or if you buy a genuine CV boot kit there is a white plastic piece that fits inside the small end of the boot. What is it supposed to do? It doesn't fit all the way round the shaft and suely the boot would seal better onto the shaft if in direct contact? befuzzled! :?

It allows the boot to slightly rotate about this point with suspension movement, which wouldn't happen if the boot was clamped directly to the shaft. This in turn prevents the boot puckering up and possibly getting chewed by the CV joint itself. :)
