rear brake hoses
rear brake hoses
Hi
Got my lovely BX 4x4 GTI through its MOT today (after getting the exhaust welded back together and the brake discs replaced) which is great.
The garage told me that although it wasn't spotted on the MOT the rear brake pipes to the calipers are very corroded and needed replacing soon but he didn't know of any suppliers.
Does anyone know where I can get some?
Thanks
Nat

Congratulations in getting such a difficult beast back on the road!
I just looked on the Service Citroen website and it seems that one of the pipes you need is available :
part no. 95 567 450 for the nearside rear calliper
the other ( no.96 062 166) isn't - typical odd Citroen. You might have to have that one made up for you..

If you take the pipes off and then in to a Citroen dealer they should be able to make replacements up quickly. Usually cheaper than buying new one too.
Or if you're feeling creative just measure the length of the pipe and get a length made up with unions fitted and bend to shape yourself.
Or you can buy a kit and do it yourself. May be cheaper in the long run....

well by popular demand here are a few snaps of her covered in a layer of frost in the snow this morning. not great photos.
I'll get the back wheels off in the new year and have a closer look at the pipes that need replacing.
humm what are these kits you speak of? sounds interesting for when I need to replace other pipes.

I made some experimenting with different designs for a DIY Citroën hydraulic pipe flaring tool. The one I ended up using is a simple design made from scrap iron and a threaded bar. This design enables you to join hydraulic pipes even in the field conditions (=underneath the car).Jayboy wrote:If you take the pipes off and then in to a Citroën dealer they should be able to make replacements up quickly. I also experimented with a more innovative design, which - even though it seems to work - is unfortunately not very convenient to use. The idea behind this design was to use only a lathe and a bandsaw in making the tool, as I was not certain I would be able to drill a sufficiently straight hole to enable the design of the first link. Here in Finland, a 3,5 mm pipe costs about 4 euro/meter, and the unions are around 2 euro per piece (if you do not make your own unions, which is pretty straightforward if you have access to a lathe).

here is price and part No.'s of both pipes for a 4X4
Part Number Description Quantity Price excl. VAT Price incl. VAT Total incl. VAT Selection
95567450 HYDRAULIC TUBE 10.73 GBP 12.61 GBP 12.61 GBP
96062166 HYDRAULIC TUBE 10.08 GBP 11.84 GBP 11.84 GBP
the first one is the same for all BX's and the second only for 4X4's and as already stated this one 96062166 is no longer avalible,
i also dont think these curly brake pipes will stand being made of copper knickle, as the are constantly flexed i belive this will fracture them quite quickly,

I've made loads of Kunifer curly pipes in the past, and they've lasted for years, to this day in fact, with no signs of failure.citronut wrote:i also dont think these curly brake pipes will stand being made of copper knickle, as the are constantly flexed i belive this will fracture them quite quickly,

I do usually add a couple of extra turns though..
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!
Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...
