Starter's fine Mat, and it catches straight away - no more chugging over and over with an underpowered starter motor...

Would an air leak cause the smoke as well as the misfiring? It's certainly a possibility.

Jaba - on any other diesel, it's probably easy to whack in the old plugs and see if it makes a difference. Just don't think I fancy doing that job again in the near future!

If it's white smoke that could indicate an air leak from what I understand. I think it's because the fuel isn't atomising properly and hence not being burnt cleanly. There should be a fair few posts on here about air leaks, both symptoms and likely cures.

No, it's the grey/blue smoke of glow plug fail, definitely not white and no problems at all once it's running.
