Brakes for Breaks?

Post by toddao »

Ok, I need to change the rear disks on my break. Apparently the disks for the break/estate are different to the saloon. Can anyone confirm and explain the difference?

Secondly I was just reading in The Haynes that the rear disks became thicker in Oct 88 and correspondingly the calipers were modified. Can I fit the newer disks with my Mk.1 calipers?

Yes, I'm confused! Any de-confusing appreciated..

Cheers
Todd

if the disc's were moded to a thicker version and callipers to match, then no you wont be able to just fit the thicker/later disc's as the jaw's of the callipers will not fit over the disc's,

there is no mention of a diferent disc size between saloon and estate on service citroen, but the are two part No.'s the second saying age>=5, what ever that traslates to im not sure,

Thanks Malcolm. Yes I saw that 'age>=5' stuff too on 'Service Citroen' - no idea what they're on about!

Todd,
As per PM ALL models 9/82 onwards came up as 224mm Dia. x 7.2 mm Thk. in my AP/Lockheed Cat. part number:- 'BG220' the O/E part no. number is showing up as '95 582 061' ORGA 3522-4900 !

But then I've found out that the FERODO part is DDF052 but the APPLICATION LIST shows up with a choice of two under the B/B' column as 7mm and 5mm respectively, so could that be something to do with what you/Malcolm have stated :?

I therefore read that as the wear limit minimum (With age) to be no less 5mm (Because '>' = More Than) !

Also from a FERODO catalogue (Translated from Russian, sorry) states the following :-
Ferodo Ref. wrote: FEATURES:

* Thickness (mm) - 7
* Diameter (mm) - 224
* Height (mm) - 56.5
* Brake Disc Type - not ventilated
* Brake Disc Thickness (mm) - 7
* Minimum thickness (mm) - 5
* Number of holes - 4
* Diameter central hole (mm) - 71
Sorry I can't be of anymore help to you.

:)

I've never noticed any difference between the estate and saloon discs ( but then I've never had a Mk1...). However the calipers and pads are different. Estate pads are the same as CX saloon, IIRC.
