remote central locking fob

Post by johnbird »

mal found a fob in his garage which he thought belonged to the bx so hes posted them to me.finished work and went and tried it and although i got a feint red glow when i pressed the button nothing happened.i replaced the flat batteries with three from a box of odds and sods i keep in the shed.the three batteries read betwen 1.5 and 1.54 volts on my meter.with these fitted it will work when really close to the sensor but only once when stood outside the car.im guessing the batteries are duff too. if the plipper works from one foot away it must be the correct frequency so hopefully with some new batteries tomorrow another small problem will be solved.which is excellent because i really like remote central locking. not sure if having the correct plipper makes buying a new one any easier? two sets of keys so two fobs would be best.

I got the same problem with the fob as well, tried new batteries and still limited range. No idea either the solution.

/\ as Kiwi says, don't get too excited yet you will find plenty of posts on here about this. The system used is not of todays standards. The plip will probably not improve with new batteries unfortunately.

there must be a reason for this? plip or receiver must be at fault?

No the laws of physics don't change but there is a difference between old IR technology of the BX and the Radio Reciever plips of modern cars!

so given that the plip is functioning correctly and i fit new batteries tomorrow what range can i reasonably expect to achieve? anything less than 3 feet and i will need to be in it or next to it which rather defeats the object of fiting it from new?

Mine works from about 3' away from the car as long as it's in clean site of the reciever, with fresh batteries.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...
