remote locking.whats the record?

Post by johnbird »

i bought some new batteries cleaned all the contacts on the plipper and the lense cover.got the plipper to work from six feet from the door handle! not great but better than three feet.its pretty reliable from here.it will work further away but it needs telescopic sights fitting!
the alarm fob wasnt working either but a little investigation revealed it was turned off on the sounder beneath the bonnet, the battery in the plipper was almost flat and the contacts on the buttons and circuit board were a bit sticky.quick wipe of meths on a kitchen role and a new battery-a fiver for all the batteries-and it now alarms.on and off from much further than the bx plipper and works the central locking too....
im inordinately pleased with the result.i do so hate things which wont work correctly or reliably.is there a school record? perhaps we could have a league table and a special class for customised plippers

Try sticking it against the skin of your neck and 'plipping' it. Could double your range using your body as a transmitter.
Works on my Mazda.

The receiver's near the interior mirror, isn't it? Might get yourself a few more inches of distance by aiming through the windows at that rather than at the door.

Is this the point where I point out that even a cellphone on the right frequancy can open the remote locking of a BX

CB radios if any one still uses them and RT sets are good to

Even thought the remote locking of a BX is IR not RF?

'tis IR which is why it works better at night and not in direct sunlight. But 6' is good. But can you do it from directly behind the car with the sunblinds up? There's a knack to that:)

if i could not make it work at six feet i was planing to put a 12v camera body into the plipper, the dimensions are pretty similar and not too much soldering if any required.not sure if it would fry the circuit board or provide the necessary amplification of the signal.the alarm fob firing up was a bonus and really cancelled all need to play any further.

Just out of interest, why couldnt you just use a key like most of us and save yourself so much bother it has already caused you?
After all, its only an old 'banger' as you have almost suggested in other posts.
Ide rather spend the dosh on a beer and put my feet up.

Thats the funniest picture I've seen this year, and I have no idea why!
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Reminds you of a willy measuring contest? Yes I know you can't see the willy, that's why it reminds?

Or am I just in need of mental help?
