fuel lines TZD

Hi All, my fuel lines from front to back have just started leaking and getting worse. How easy are they to obtain and what sort of difficulty level are they to put on ?

There was a pair on ebay this week, £30 for both from some seller in Glasgow :?

Easy job :)

Instead of struggling with the rigid to flexible join at the rear up the side of the fuel tank, disconnect the rubber hose from the top of the tank (under the back seat) and pull it through slightly. Tie some string onto it so you can pull it back and reconnect.

Save yourself the trouble of ever having to do this again, by replacing the steel flow and return lines with rigid Nylon tubing (8mm and 6mm respectively). Also replace the steel jubilee clips at each end with stainless equivilants whilst your at it, job done :wink: .

Done it several times myself on BX's with corroded fuel lines, and never had a problem since. You might also like to completely remove the rubber pipes from the top of the tank (under the back seat) and pull it right out, and inspect them for signs of perishing, because this will be the only time you will easily be able to see their condition.


However make sure that you
Tie some string onto it so you can pull it back and reconnect.

Or flexible copper (microbore heating pipe). Whichever's easiest to find where you are.

I bought a pair from Citroen just before Christmas, not that much - €25?

The 25 year old ones had stood up quite well but the TÜV don't like rusty looking fuel pipes even if it's only on the surface.

As Mat mentioned, the best part is getting them in/out by the side of the tank! I found that running a piece of semi-rigid wire through the gap acted as an effective guide for the new rubber fuel piping to run along. The rubber pipes had to be replaced too as I had to cut quite a lot off the old ones to get the rusty pipes free.

hi guy's, thanks for the replies I now have the relevant information that I need to get the job done and sorted. I will tackle this job. Thanks for the tip about the string at the side of the tank it never would have occurred to me to do that, it will save me a lot of time and messing about.
I must also thank HMRC for my tax rebate today, which will make doing this job a bit easier as I won't be begging, borrowing or stealing to find the parts.

I got the new fuel pipes on Ebay from that place in Glasgow. They were £13 & £18 with free delivery. They arrived today and I think I will be replacing them this weekend if my cold clears up. I will let you know how I get on.

When you've got a cold is the best time to do it as you will stink of diesel for a few days after but won't notice :lol:

Re the rebate from HMRC did it come via e-mail which asked you to click on a link? Had a similar e-mail sitting in my "trash bin" since the end of Jan! I presumed it was a hoax. The way it was worded didn't seem right addressed me as "applicant" rather by my name seemed rather vague. So perhaps it was a real rebate after all seems odd not to receive anything through the post though. Anyone else had an e-mail like this?

Hi everybody,
I've done it !! I've replaced them and what a job it was ! thanks to all who told me about tying some string around the pipes at the top of the tank, it worked a treat when I needed to pull them back through.
One problem I did have, the new pipes that I had bought were genuine Citroen pipes but I think I got the Friday afternoon edition of the pipes because the bend at the rear of the the smallest bore pipe wasn't in the right place, it had been bent too early in the length which made it about 3 centimetres to short, so I had to take the bend out of the pipe and bend it in the correct place to get it to fit, but apart from that it was an easy job to do.
I am glad I had a cold because I must have stunk to high heaven of diesel, I had a bath when I had finished and there was an oil slick in there with me. ha ha ha.
The next time I have to do that job on my other BX I will use micro bore copper pipe as suggested by another club member, it would be easier and the pipes would last a lot longer being copper.
