Quick gearbox question.

Can anyone confirm the gearbox number/type the would be fitted to a J reg BX turbo diesel. Is it a BE03?

My Haynes says the following:

Pre 1989 models
Visa Van: BE1 (BM61) 5-speed
Visa 17D and 17RD: BE1 (BM60) 4-speed or BE1 (BL04) 5-speed
BX 17D: BE1 (BL03) 5-speed
BX 19D and 19RD: BE1 (BL04) 5-speed or BE1 (BL62) 5-speed

1989 - on models:
4-speed BE3/4
5-speed BE3/5

If reverse is on the end of 5th, then it's a BE3, if it's next to first, then it's a BE1, but yeah, it should be a BE3.

Reverse next to knee, it's a BE3. That's how I always remember it. *Excluding LHD cars...

Yeah, and if you have troubles telling right from left, that bit is easy to remember from "if things look strange and weird, watch out: it's right-hand-steered."

(I once told my Wife to use the "Volvo rule" when giving me driving instructions: V - vasen - left; O - oikea - right. I was just trying to help, but that was obviously not appreciated at all.
