Oil Query

Post by mds141 »

Is it possibile to change the oil and filter TOO often. As the oil contains a detergent agent would changing the oil say every 1000 mls do more harm than good. :?:

It'd cost a bloomin' lot! If you're doing more than 1000 miles a year, I can't see why you'd want to change it so often.

:o Crikey that was quick! Only do 3000 mls a year in the bx as i use the 407 for everday motoring.I buy the oil in bulk off ebay so cost isn't a worry, just wondered if 1000 mls is too soon. Cheers mark.

You should change it every 6000miles, or every year. When a car is sat around, condensation can build up in the breathers etc (I know mine does) so the oil gets affected pretty easily. For the cost of doing it once a year, it\'s no real ball-ache either.

(Says the bloke who hasn\'t changed it since 2008!)

Cheers. For the sake of £15 worth of oil and a oil filter i consider it the cheapest and most important piece of maintenance you can do to any vehicle. :)

Isn't it also true though that when the car is run for a while at temperature, then this drives out any moisture?
This seems to go hand-in-hand with the mayo question that you'll see it on the around town runs in the filler but if checked immediately after a longer motorway run it has usually dissapeared. :)
