Power Socket

Post by mds141 »

I'm thinking of adding a 12 volt power socker/fag lighter to the inside of the boot next to the boot light. Can i use the feed to the boot light and splice the wiring. The fag lighter i am going to use has a in built fuse. Thanks in anticipation. Mark.

Yes.

The dashboard lighter socket is powered from the same fuse as the interior/boot lights, so technically a second fuse isn't required. However, the thin gauge cable to the boot light won't cope very well with high currents so I'd advise putting in a 5A fuse or lower in the boot socket, and just using it for low current devices. I use mine to keep a torch constantly on charge.

Cheers Mat. I actually saw your set up in an earlier thread and was inspired. Hope you don't want any patent royalties! I will using the power socket for a small cool box for this years rallies so won't be a heavy draw. Cheers Mark.
