Actually Ray, that's true, especially after how much work he did on the piece of sh*t!
Mind you, if you tell him you like CX's, he would tell you there is hope for you!
I've met him and his wife in person, and they are nice people!

I'm currently coveting Shane's hydraulic clutch that he's fitted to his CX - I'd love to put one in my 22 TRS. Finding one is the problem...

I've driven that car, before the clutch and air-con were fitted mind you!
I wouldn't mind doing the hydraulic clutch to my car, and in fact I already have the master cylinder...
I suspect you would not really feel the benefit from a hydro clutch in a 22TRS, just fit a new clutch and I bet it would feel 10 times better!

To be fair, the clutch isn't really that bad - for most people.

I have a medical condition and get tired quickly - especially my left leg when driving a manual. The idea of a light clutch pedal is an appealing one, although my 22TRS and the Visa convertible, when it gets here are the only ones with a clutch pedal :)

Of all the cars I've ever had, only 3 have been automatic.
The first one, a REALLY rare 1977 VW type 2 microbus, with 2.0 engine.
Most of the ones you ever see are only 1600, but as an auto virtually unheard of!...wish I still had it!

Second, a an Austin Cambridge A60, again as an auto quite rare.
I should not have bought...it blew out it's core plug on the delivery journey!

And last, there was an Opel Kadett 1.6 berlina...better known as a MK1 Vauxhall Astra. This was not a bad car, but it was getting tired by the time I had it.

See if that video of a valver at Bathurst is still floating around on youtube....drive up and over a tyre wall and land the other side. That\'s how you put a strut through the bonnet!

Has anyone ever tried driving a hydraulic clutch using the existing hydraulic pressure via a doseur ?

That's the idea Brian. :)

Have a look here:

http://www.tedperkins.com/embass.htm

and at Shane's write-up on aussiefrogs showing his personal installation:

http://www.aussiefrogs.com/forum/showpo ... stcount=22

I drooled somewhat. It really harks back to the fundamental principles of the DS - that everything should be assisted by the engine.

Slightly different to how I imagined it - something to do with failure modes I expect - Citroen will, of course, done it that way for a reason :-)

Well - yes :-)

It's always seemed a little odd to me that there's so much driven by the hydraulics - but not the clutch, where hydraulic clutches are common on other cars. It seemed to me to be logical to have a preessure control device (such as a doseur) at the pedal and a simple hydraulic drive to a slave at the business end.

I'm beginning to see reasons for a simple piston at the pedal - assistance needs to be directly related to the position of the mechanism at the clutch end so that's probably the best place to put the complex hydraulics.

I'm impressed with the previous idea of an over-centre spring as pedal assist to act against the return spring at the clutch end - that's an elegant solution to a heavy clutch mechanism - it's a shame it was dropped.

Hydraulic clutches were very much on my mind with the first two BXs - and for a couple of years with this one too - until I had the clutch replaced and now it's quite light.
