Windscreen Washer BX GTi

Post by JohnHA »

using my windscreen washer the other day, the short rubber pipe from the wiper mechanism to the wiper arm blew off so the fluid jetted into the air and not up the wiper arm tube. Close inspection showed the nipple on the short pipe that passed through the wiper arm spindle was no longer in place.

No replacement parts available from Citroen. I have tried a 2nd hand unit but it is so badly worn the wiper arm flops about badly but at least it's nipple is ok. Any ideas please. :?

All comments gratefully received. Thanks. JohnHA

I've run mine for some time with the pump directly connected to the spraybar with a long length of washer hose from Halfords, routed through the grille panel next to the wiper. With enough length, there is enough slack so it doesn't get pulled off the spraybar by the wiper action. Works well - good pressure too!

(Reason being that pressure was puny through the spindle jet and I wasn't able to improve it by rodding it)

Hi Malcolm, your suggestion sounds good, how do i remove the spindle and bush so i can see what it's all about ? Could i take my old spindle to bits (which has got no play at all) and replace my tube, (without a nipple), with the tube from the 2nd hand one, which has a nipple. All would then be perfect again !! Make any sense ??.

Cheers, JohnHA

That's easy to sort by drilling the crap out of it...

(ps: take the pipe off underneath first! )

^^ But I'm pleased with my solution, took no time at all, and I don't have a set of drill bits, only the odd few that are too big for this.

Just have to be careful you don't put a kink in the spraybar when pushing the hose onto it - it's quite a tight fit.
