Hi,
is the procedure for refilling the water on a 1.6 BX the same as for a diesel, albeit different piping?

1.6 BX radiator
i dont see why not,
what method do you use, i have never use the extention header bottle method,
i just remove the plug at the top N/S end of the rad, fill till coolant comes out and stops sinking then replace that plug,
now open the other bleed screws till coolant comes out of those, if it doesnt then start the engine and continue to top up the rad/header tank till coolant comes out of the open bleed screws, shut them off as you get coolant out of each one,
once the level is stable refit the rad/header tank cap, run engine tiil the fan/s cut in and cut back out, now gently open the capto check presure and level,

Yes it is mate, and malcolms method is the one I used, best way of getting out any airlock, try and avoid undoing the plastic bleed screws as they normally snap!
Worth taking the rad out completely and back flushing it as its an easy job on a 1.6.
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....
