i've managed to get my engine fueling really smoothly after cleaning the carb, a dose of Redex and tweaking the mixture and idle settings. I've tried taking it lean so it runs rough then richer and bringing it back finding a sweet spot. I'd need to get readings done properly to make sure within tolerances. I think it must have been running lean, but what i'm wondering is, do people sometimes tend to richen the mixture to smooth out or cover other things that might not be in proper balance?
I'm also running at about 1000rpm idle for smooth stop starting. Maybe diesel is still in my blood.
Is the Haynes mixture setting method sensible - ie adjust mix screw to find highest engine speed at idle and screw in (lean up) to about 50rpm above the idle speed specified for your engine?
